Matar ki tahri is a quick and easy spicy rice dish for all season specially in lunch, which tastes great with curd, pickle and green chutney.
Required ingredients
- 3 cups lang grain rice
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 black cardamom
- 8-10 peppercorns
- 2 medium sized onions, finely sliced
- 1 tsp. garlic paste
- 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
- 1 tsp. turmeric powder
- 1 tsp. red chilli powder
- 1 cup green peas
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp. oil
Directions & How to
- Wash and soak rice for 30 minutes
- Heat oil in a pan, add greeen chillies, bay leaf, cardamom and peppercorns.
- As they sizzle in oil add onions and fry till golden.
- Add garlic paste, saute for a while.
- Add the tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilli power and cook till tomatoes becomes mushy.
- Add the peas and salt, mix well. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes.
- Now add the strainded rice and add 4 and half cups of water. Cook till rice is done.
- Serve with your favourite raita, chutney and pickle
