Shahi Daal is easy and delicious dry preparation and a popular north Indian dish will surely be loved by all.
Required ingredients
- 1 cup soaked split urad daal (dehusked black gram)
- 1 tsp salt
For the tempering
- 3 tbsp. finely chopped onion
- ½ tsp grated ginger
- ½ tsp finely chopped garlic
- 2 dry whole red chillies, roughly chopped
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 black cardamom
- Few peppercorns
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- 1” stick cinnamon
- 1 lemon juice
- 1 tbsp. mustard oil
Directions & How to
- Boil 4-5 cups of water, add soaked daal and salt. Let it cook for about 20- 25 minutes till it is tender and soft. Drain the daal and keep aside.
- Heat oil in saucepan; add bay leaf, cumin seeds, peppercorns, cardamom, cinnamon and sauté for 30 seconds on high heat.
- Add onions, ginger, garlic and chillies and fry them till onions are nice and golden.
- Add the daal and mix well.
- Squeeze lemon juice and serve with chapati or rice.
